To be eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  1. The Applicant must be a need based high school senior graduating from one of 24 schools located in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee (need based is defined as being a member of a family whose household income is $24,000 or below, which amount should not include government assistance).

  2. The Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  3. The Applicant must have a 19 ACT or 930 SAT score or higher.

  4. The Applicant must matriculate into a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.


In addition to submitting the Scholarship Application, all Applicants must submit the following to be considered for the MCC Scholarship:

  1. A copy of his/her student profile.

  2. THREE (3) LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION, one from the Applicant’s high school principal, teacher and guidance counselor, and said letters of recommendation must contain an evaluation of the Applicant’s accomplishments both academic and otherwise.

  3. A current transcript.

  4. An ESSAY not to exceed 500 words stating the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream for humanity and its impact on society in the 21st Century.  The Essay review will be confined to Clarity, Passion and Purpose.  The Essay must be typewritten in not less than 12 point type, and double-spaced.  Be sure printing equipment is in good condition.  Faintly printed essays will not be read.
  1. This is a one-time award for one academic year.

  2. The Music City Classic Scholarship Committee will determine the recipient of this scholarship award and will pay the scholarship money directly to the college/university the chosen recipient decides to attend.

  3. The chosen recipient will be notified in writing of his/her selection and will be responsible for notifying the Music City Classic Scholarship Committee Chairperson at scholarmmc@comcast.net to inform the Chairman what college/university he/she will attend so the scholarship award can be paid to directly to the chosen college/university on the recipient’s behalf.

  4. All winners must attend the Scholarship Awards Program to be held in April at the downtown Pinnacle Financial Center/Pinnacle Bank in order to win the scholarship.

  5. Recipients of this award automatically become fellowship members of the Music City Classic and the recipients will be required annually to send a letter to the committee about his/her progress, listing any and all achievements completed in school each academic year until graduation.
