NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Virginia’s Mountain Mission High School Challengers used a dominant first half to take down Nashville’s Ensworth Tigers 55-43 in the annual Music City Classic.


Mountain Mission started the contest with an 8-0 run before Ensworth got on the board with a three-pointer from Lewis McDaniel with 3:47 remaining in the opening period. McDaniel would later add a second trey, but MMHS continued to roll and grabbed a 12-6 lead at the end of the first.


The Tigers rallied early in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 10-12 after a bucket from Imani Starling. However, the Challengers punched back and closed the half with a 12-2 run to grab a 24-12 lead at the break.


Both teams would play evenly through the second half with each team scoring 13 points and 18 points in the third and fourth quarters, but the commanding first half allowed Mountain Mission to cruise to the victory.


Mountain Mission was led by Isaac Mushila’s 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ensworth got 13 points from James Wiseman and was led on the backboards by Starling’s 5 rebounds.
