NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chattanooga’s Hamilton Heights boys basketball team turned away Providence Day 72-54 to close out the action in the second day of the Music City Classic.
Hamilton Heights led 23-18 at the end of the first quarter and the teams battled to a 12-12 score in the second, giving Hamilton Heights a 35-30 advantage at the break.
Hamilton Heights’ Therren Szmidt opened the third quarter with a trey to give his squad a 38-30 lead with 7:49 left in the third. From there, the Hawks would take command, holding Providence Day to only 15 points in the frame while posting 25.
Hamilton Heights’ defense would again be the story in the final quarter as Providence Day was held to only 3-of-13 shooting. Overall, the Hawks held their opponent to only 38 percent shooting for the game.
Hamilton Heights’ Szmidt led all scorers with 24 points and Nickeil Walker and Shai Alexander added 18 each. Trey Wertz led Providence Day with 21 points.
